Itinerary of the trip

Today is all about settling in your comfortable hotel by the magical Lake Bled and exploring its surroundings on the doorstep of the Julian Alps. Depending on the time at your disposal, you can take a walk around the lake, try a bite of the famous local “kremšnita” creme cake, or visit the Bled Castle on a little hilltop overlooking the lakeside. Let the adventure begin!

The day will begin with a short and scenic hike to the top of the panoramic viewpoint above Lake Bled, Mt. Ojstrica. Being up there during sunrise rewards you with views like you’ve never seen before, but you’ll have to get up early! Then, you’ll walk across the fields above Bled to Vintgar Gorge, where Radovna River cut a deep ravine, which visitors can now traverse along a series of boardwalks fixed along the side of the steep stone walls. After a day filled with new experiences, you’ll return to Bled for another night at your hotel.

Following a slightly more laid-back day of hiking and exploring Bled, you’ll venture deeper into the Julian Alps today. Starting with a bus and then a short shuttle transfer, you’ll begin hiking in Stara Fužina, initially following the path through the scenic Mostnica Gorge and Voje Valley. Then, the trail ascends, crossing several quaint mountain pastures before leading you to your destination for the night, Vodnikov dom mountain hut, from where you’ll enjoy views of Slovenia’s highest mountain, Mt. Triglav.

This is, without a doubt, the most scenic day of this holiday. To warm up, you’ll start ascending towards the Hribarice mountain pass. The path is uneven and rocky, thus presenting the toughest challenge of the hike. Beyond the pass, you’ll reach the first hut on today’s route, the Dolič Lodge. Soon after, another will offer you a chance for a well-deserved break: the Zasavje Lodge on Prehodavci. Then, the only thing left for you to do is to descend past several lakes through the magical Triglav Lakes Valley until you reach the hut next to the Double Lake, where you’ll spend your second night in the mountains.

It is time to set your sights on Bohinj again. You’ll follow an undulating path to the Ovčarija mountain pasture and then the Dedno Polje mountain pasture. Here, you can pay a visit to a local cheese maker, who still produces cheese the traditional way up on the pasture. Afterward, you can also grab a bite at the mountain hut on Planina pri Jezeru. From there, you only have to descend back to Bohinj, where you’ll check into your hotel for the last two nights.

After three days of strenuous hiking, you’re allowed to take it easy today, enjoying some leisure time on the beach of Lake Bohinj. You can even rent a SUP or kayak to explore the lake from a different perspective or just wander around the quaint pasture hamlets on the eastern shores of the lake to soak in the peaceful ambiance.

Frequently Asked Questions

The included pickup and drop-off at the end of the holiday in the price published on our website is in Ljubljana. For any changes, please notify us upon booking. The included transfers are all the transfers between places and/or activities specified in the itinerary.

Both our back office team and our guides know where to go. We can give you recommendations or even pre-book some places for you. You can be adventurous and find places on your own. Either way, let us know if you would like any sort of help.

It is important to dress for the season. Slovenia has all 4 seasons, so please check the weather forecast before the day trip regarding temperatures and rainfall. When you are close to the Alps, the weather can change fairly quickly, so your best bet is to always bring an extra layer. We recommend shoes you will be comfortable in.

It really depends on the level of your restriction. Vegetarian options are fairly easy to find in Slovenia, but vegan dishes, on the other hand, are extremely hard to come by in rural areas of the country and in smaller towns. Please note that the places where we stop for lunch are often traditional and may have difficulties accommodating you outside of their standard menu. We suggest you keep this in mind.

The tour plan was really wonderful, a good balance of urban and outdoor locations and experiences. The trip app worked perfectly, making it simple to keep organized with excursion vouchers, route maps, site descriptions, etc. it also made it easy to communicate with the travel company when we occasionally had questions. We were amazed at how much variety there was in a relatively small area. I highly recommend this company and this particular trip plan for anyone who would like to explore this area of Slovenia.
